Supplies for summer classes

Here are the supplies that your student will need for classes.  Siblings can share supplies, I will seat them near each other- but each student will need their own pad of paper/canvases.

Oil Pastels:

Oil pastels- I think the Pentel brand is fine.  I don't like the Sakura, Darice, orother "craft" brands.  They are lower quality, which means less pigment, dull colors, and not as blendable.  This set is fine for starting out.  You can get a nicer quality with this set, but fewer colors.

Paper- The paper must be specifically for oil pastels!  These are greasy, and the paper has to be able to absorb but not leak it through to other paper.  This pad is fine, it has an assortment of colors I believe, which is fun with oil pastels.  They show up great on colored paper.  The size is up to you, but at least 8x10 so we have room to really play.  The color is also up to you- just make sure it's for oil pastels!

Blending Sticks (optional)- these are for people that don't like messy fingers.  I like to use my fingers, the pastels are not super hard to remove.  The heat from your finger will help melt the oil, making it spreadable.  The blending sticks work great and won't make your fingers such a mess during the process.

Acrylic Painting

Paint- Paint is tricky because it adds up quickly.   The art "kits" typically come with very transparent paint, which means you will blow through it very fast.  If you already have a kit, let's use it up.  If you are buying supplies, let's avoid the kits.  This set is a good beginner set--we will learn to mix colors, so you don't have to have everything.  This set has lots of variety, but the tubes are very small.  So the main colors will probably not go far enough for more than one or two paintings. *Don't buy Reeve's brand of any art supply! It's all garbage.

Brushes- This set has a good variety, and a protective case.

Canvas- your choice of size, style.  The canvas on board is going to have the shortest life.  Stretched canvas will last longer, but costs more.  This pack will do, it isn't professional, but it is going to allow the student to learn at a lower cost.  You can get this or choose a smaller pack.

Roll of paper towels for cleaning brushes.

Plastic paint tray/pallette- just get locally.  These are only a couple of dollars.  Get one with at least 10 wells.  Don't worry about a cover- they are never air tight.

Easel- optional.  Just make sure it's a smaller table top type.

June 2015 Classes

I decided that I would offer two art classes in June, since I have a few girls that are pretty consistent about asking me, and the guilt... I can't take it. I am keeping these small--no more than 10 kids, you can secure a spot with your payment (the spots are open until paid for). These are fun mediums, and easy to learn!

Oil Pastels for ages 8+ Tuesdays 10-10:45am $30***FULL
Acrylic Painting ages 10+ Tuesdays 10:45-11:45am $40

*You will need your own supplies, so the kids can continue developing their talents!
Classes will be June 2, 9, 16, 30 (no class on the 23rd) (Makeup day July 7th if you miss a class)

Just email me if you are interested or have a question. I won't reserve spots, it's first come, first serve with payment.

Oil pastel supplies will run around $13+ depending on the sizes of paper pads and if you want to use blending sticks.

Acrylic painting supplies will vary based on quality of paint, brushes, and size of canvas. You can get a very basic, low end set on Amazon that has an easel (which is nice) for about $25 with Prime. Easels are not required, but can be nice. Low end paints will run out really quickly because they are so transparent. It's worth spending a bit more initially to get paints that can go a little longer.

No Classes 2013-2014

There will not be art classes during 2013 and 2014.

We've had career changes going on, and I wanted to focus more on spending time with my kids.  Sorry for any inconvenience!

Saturday

One Spot JUST OPENED in Art Fundamentals!

I had a class change for a student and so there is ONE spot available for Art Fundamentals!  If you missed out before- grab it quick!

Art Fundamentals Is Full

Alrighty, there are 4 spots left for Arts & Crafts, and that's all I've got for you!  I am excited, this is going to be a fun summer!

A little secret about the craft projects: we are going beach themed!  (beach candles, fishy note holders, hanging jellyfish, and one more project!)

Friday

Summer Drawing is FULL!

Thank you for all of the sign ups!  Summer drawing class is now full.  If you missed this, I will have at least two drawing classes in the fall.  I am hoping to have Fall registration up soon.  I just have to wait until I know what days my daughter will run cross country races.  Last year they had that ready for us the first part of June, so I am hopeful that we will know soon!

Thank you!

And if you are still wanting to give your kids a great summer activity that boosts their brains without being taxing on them, I have spots in Art Fundamentals and Arts & Crafts!

Thursday

Last Call for Summer!

Alright- we are down to just over a week to go!  Classes are filling well, and only have a few spots left.  Here is the update (you can see the current status by going to the registration page):

Arts & Crafts, June ONLY, 4 spots open

Art Fundamentals, June & July only, 4 spots open

Drawing, June & July, 3 spots open

You can register as late as you choose, but there are no makeups for missed classes, and I am not lowering the price for late sign ups.  So if you are just waiting it is better to get signed up and start on day one!

I will send out an email *hopefully* over the weekend to all those signed up with the the details about my studio policies, maps, reminders, what to bring/wear, etc.

Also, please feel free to share this blog with a friend!  I would love to have all 12 seats full in each class.  It keeps my costs from having to go up to cover supplies!

Thanks and I will see you soon!!!!

Sunday

Class Updates

Okay, I have a couple of updates I need to post before I forget!

First- Arts & Crafts will only be in June, and I still am short 4 kids in that class. Please spread the word! This class is fun, not a lot different than Art Fundamentals, but we will play with more mediums and there will be more of "building" things (crafts that are assembled, I guess that's a way to put it). So this is great for kids that like to be hands on and "make" something more than a painting or drawing. This is also a great way to get younger kids interested in art and help keep their creative imaginations going without a lot of pressure.

Art Fundamentals is getting full. I have a number of people who have said they want a spot, but that haven't paid. I am going to have to take whoever pays first even if you have asked for me to "save" a spot. In the past I have saved spots and then had no shows, and I decided I would not do that anymore. So, if you are wanting a spot you need to hurry! I have more people requesting spots than I have spots. Also, I am discouraging one month spots in that class because space is so limited and I have enough people that want both months, and I would rather have all my spots be full, so that takes priority for me.

And last- drawing 2 has a few more spots open. Again, if you are wanting a spot in there please hurry. We aren't quite to the 8 student mark, but supplies are not an issue in this class, so I will probably keep it open anyway. I would love it to have a few more students though, so please tell your friends!

Thank you so much!

Thursday

Possible Class Cancelations

***Classes with fewer than 8 students will be canceled.  Deadline is May 31st!***

If you have registered for a class that might be canceled I will contact you. I don't want to cancel, but I can't afford all of the supplies for a class unless we have at least 8 kids sharing the materials.  To make it cost effective I buy in bulk, so this is kind of a big deal. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.  You will have the option of switching classes or a refund.  I hope, of course, that we can switch classes should this happen.  I just needed to give you notice of the policy!

Included supplies will be mine to keep except the drawing pad.  Your supply fees don't actually cover the cost of everything, but will offset my purchase price.
Supplies Needed (cost is approx. $25-30 depending on coupons and sales):
Minimum 12" metal ruler (with cork backing)
Graphite Pencil Set (usually 8-12 pencils with a range of 4h-6b depending on the brand.  I prefer Derwent.)
Pink Pearl Eraser (Pink Pearl is the brand, please don't get cheap pink erasers- they ruin paper!)
Drawing Pad- 8x10 to 11x14)
METAL pencil sharpener (cheap school ones ruin pencils!)

Please note- your spot is not secured until paid for.
*I can't give discounts for missed weeks.  So please consider how much time you will be missing before you register.  I also cannot do makeup classes because I will only be teaching one day per week. There will be no refunds, but I can change classes for a student if necessary.

Wednesday

Summer Art Anyone?!

I am trying to make the decision on whether to hold summer art classes or not.  So, if you are interested PLEASE fill out this survey!  It will help me know what is wanted and if the day that works best for me will work for you.

Tuesday

*There will not be art classes January - May 2012*

I think this has been one of the hardest decisions ever. But I finally realized I was completely ignoring an answer to a prayer, repeatedly. Every time I put the calendar up I felt this mass chaos, every time I took it down I felt calm. So I kept putting it up trying to make it work. And I finally realized what was happening after my third or fourth attempt at it. I think I need a break for a little while. I have been running non-stop since I went back to school full time 3 1/2 years ago, then added home-schooling to my schedule (while in school), then once I had finished my art classes I began teaching. So, I just need to take a break and let my family have me more. It will be great for my creative spirit I am certain. I am currently planning to have some classes during the summer. Until I know what my husband's schedule will be I am not going to plan my calendar, but I expect I will have at least one morning of classes available. Thank you so much for the opportunity to teach you and your children! I have loved every minute of it! I am so blessed to have a talent I can share that brings me so much joy and fulfillment! ~Sincerely, April
